1. Can the Maxigrip screw studs puncture my tires?

Not if you ensure that the thread depth of your tire is greater or equal to the recommended thread depth.
Large tires normally have a good margin, but never use a stud that is longer than the thread depth of the tire. The stud should be fitted so that 3 mm is visible above the tire surface to ensure that
the wheel cord remains unaffected, but do not worry as our installation tool is already configured to provide a 3mm projection by default.

2. Is there any chance the studs may come out of the tire, do I need to seal them up?

If they are fitted according to the instructions provided they will remain fixed, even in extreme conditions.  The hardened, galvanized screw with coarse threads has been designed to prevent this exact problem.
The Maxigrip stud has been extensively tested and developed over five years on everything from tractors and off-road motorcycles to snow scooters and boots.

3. Can the Maxigrip studs be used on asphalt, concrete and other surfaces?

Yes, the Maxigrip studs are a lot less invasive on surfaces than snow chain.

4. How many studs do I need?

As a rule of thumb, there are approximately 40 contact patches on each tire and we recommend between 2 to 5 studs per contact patch.  But, some customers will go as far as 6 studs per contact patch, depending on the size of their tires.  You can always check out our recommendation chart with each product description for more guidance.

These figures are intended as guidelines only. The customer's specific needs and situation will ultimately determine the actual requirements.

5. Can I refit the studs in the same hole season after season?

Yes, this is possible, with the exception of soft rubber wheels (often smaller wheels).

6. How do you dismount a worn stud?

Simply adjust the stop-ring on the fitting tool and the studs will come out without any problem.

7. Will the stud last if I drive a lot on asphalt?

Yes, our studs have been intensively tested for durability test on asphalt (Over 600 working hours) with great success.  You can review our Durability Test here.

8. My vehicle guide has specific instructions about clearance from the manufacturer, do I need to worry about this when buying my Maxigrip snow studs?

The Maxigrip Studs have been designed so that clearance would not be an issue at all. The Maxigrip studs when fitted properly only have a 3mm projection over your tire and will not affect your clearance restriction.

9. Do I have to jack up the vehicle to fit my Maxigrip ice studs?

No, Maxigrip Ice studs are very easy to fit, no jacking is required, please consult our installation page to see how easy it is.

10. I have never fitted Ice studs before, any tips?

Yes, consult our installation page and view the video, verify by yourself how easy they are to install.

11. My vehicle has sports wheels, should I worry about them or my alloys?

No, the Maxigrip ice studs will not damage your alloys.  In comparison to snow chains, ice studs are not invasive on your vehicle and will not create any additional wear and tear.

12. My vehicle has ABS brakes, can I still fit Maxigrip ice studs?

Yes, absolutely.

13. Can I recycle my Maxigrip screw studs?

That`s the best question we have had so far, YES.  We encourage you to do so as we, at Maxigrip Store love our planet!
